The fashion accessory is for me the whole of the objects other than the principal clothing.
The accessories modify the aspect of a dress without changing the order of it.
Secondary elements, they complete the costume and sometimes influence the posture and the gesture. Whether or not they are in contact with the body, their vocation is neither to dress nor to structure the garment.
This is why the bodies with whalebones, corsets, bulges, vertugadins, crinolines, tournures, waistbands, guêpières, bras, etc., these invisible elements which support the clothing or modify the silhouette, do not enter the agreed field of the accessory.
If they are not a priori essential, accessories do not assume less several roles: some, following the example of the shoes or the fibulas, are functional, they ensure protection or maintenance; others are pure ornaments, but none escapes the order of the conveniences.
